Missing teeth takes a toll on one’s health and confidence. It prevents you from eating all that you want and also makes you feel uncomfortable when you smile. Many people lose teeth due to an injury or some inherent problem.  Are you wondering if there is any solution for restoring your missing teeth and getting your confidence back? We’re here to tell you, “Yes, there is.” Cosmetic dentistry helps you get your smile back with the help of dentures. There are many types of dentures that you can choose from. Here are a few of them explained.

Complete dentures

Dentures that are used to replace the full set of teeth are called full dentures. It consists of two sets, one to replace the teeth in the upper jaw and another to replace the teeth in the lower jaw. The upper jaw is made up of tissue colored acrylic base that covers the gums and roof of the mouth. The lower jaw of the mouth is covered using the same acrylic base but is horseshoe shaped to avoid covering the tongue.

Cast partial dentures

Another option that is available is partial dentures, which get attached to the precision attachments that are barely visible. Partial dentures are used to fill the gap created due to a few missing teeth. They can be attached to the natural teeth with the help of metal or non metal clasps and also to crowns on natural teeth with precision attachments to improve their grip.

Implant supported dentures

Implant supported dentures are more stable than full dentures, especially for the lower jaw . There are two types of implant supported dentures, bar retained and ball retained. A bar-retained denture contains a metal bar, which is attached to the implant placed in your gums. Whereas, in ball retained dentures, the metal ball attached is held by each implant in the jawbone.

Overdentures

Overdentures are removable, and they sit on the top of the gum with the help of dental implants. These type of dentures can be placed either on the upper or lower jar according to the patient’s need.

Flippers

Even though flippers are the most affordable option among all the types of dentures ,they are less retentive and not a durable option.
