Many teeth that would have been lost in the past can now be saved with root canal treatment. Common symptoms are severe thermal sensitivity, toothache or infection/swelling. This can be caused by a deep cavity or filling, and trauma.
After conducting a few tests to confirm the status of the nerve, the dentist will determine the need for a root canal. They will start by freezing the area, and access the pulp chamber. The canal is then irrigated, cleaned, dried, and filled with a rubber based material.
A crown is highly recommended to prevent fracture of the tooth in the future.
